Hikmahanto Juwana has been a teaching staff in the field of International Law Studies, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia since 1988. Hikmahanto obtained a Bachelor of Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, a Master of International Law from the Faculty of Law, Keio University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Faculty of Law from University of Nottingham. The position of Professor was conferred in 2001 with a Professor Inauguration Speech entitled: International Law in Conflicts of Economic Interests in Developing and Developed Countries. Prof. Hikmahanto was appointed Professor at the age of 36, he was the youngest Professor in the history of the University of Indonesia at that time.

In 2004, Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana was trusted as the youngest Dean at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana in the course of his academic career has received recognition from educational institutions both at home and abroad. He teaches in a number of law courses at several other leading universities in Indonesia and is a visiting professor at the University of Melbourne, National University of Singapore and Nagoya University, Japan. As an independent researcher, he has published a number of books, articles and research papers on various aspects of international law, business law, and space law.

Apart from taking part in the academic field, Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana also has extensive experience in the field of community service including: Expert Staff of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia (14 January 2020-2021), Member of the BNPT Expert Group for International Law (1 August 2016-31 August 2017), Member of the Team for Drafting Academic Papers on the Draft Law Amendment 10 of 1997 concerning Nuclear Energy – BAPETEN (13 January 2016), Member of the Expert Team of the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Fishing (Illegal Fishing) – Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia (14 December 2015), Member of the Special Legal Expert Team of the Ministry of Defense (6 January 2015 - 31 December 2015), SOE Legal Issues Review Team (Civil Law Enforcement) Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (5 January 2015-present), Prof.Hikmahanto Juwana also has professional experience on his expertise and prowess in he legal field, including: Independent Commissioner of Unilever Indonesia (2011-2021), member of Supervisory Board of Bank Indonesia (March 2017 – present), Independent Commissioner of PT. Aneka Tambang (Persero), Tbk, Independent Commissioner of PT. Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia (2008-2012). Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana also provides various legal opinions at the request of private institutions and individuals.

Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana is fluent in English and Japanese languages.
